Roll of Arms

Members of the Society for Creative Anachronism strive to recreate all pleasant aspects of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, especially the Arts and Sciences that surrounded people alive between AD 600 - AD 1600.  Members produce works as varied as illuminated manuscript pages, armor, woven cloth and bands, medieval and renaissance jewelry, paintings, clothing, woodcrafts, and many other items.  These pieces are created using the makers best attempt at a period style and with as many period materials as are available.

Upcoming Arts and Sciences Competitions in Eskalya

Time for Tewder - Leeks in food

Yule - Medieval Craftsmen's Challenge
I, Cynehild Cynesigesdohtor, Arts and Science Champion of Eskalya, challenge all artisans and artificers to produce an item for entry into the Medieval Craftsman's Challenge to become the next A&S Champion of Eskalya. The contest is simple, make an item, any item, using as many period techniques and materials as you are comfortable with. Try hand sewing your seams or grinding your own pigments. No one is expecting perfection and we realize that some techniques and materials can't be used owing to their inherent danger. But many materials and techniques are not and can produce better results than their modern equivalents. So make the attempt! (I double dog dare you... :D)

Coronet - Principality A&S Octathlon
In honor of the 50th reign in Oertha, I have decided to bring all of Oertha's groups together for a joint A&S Competition to be held at Winter Coronet.  I will have the official competitions listed this week; however in the interest of fairness to all artisans, here are the competitions so far:

Principality:  Illuminated Letters
Eskalya: leather, horn or wood drinking vessels
St. Guinefort: Calligraphy
Winter's Gate: Embroidered blackwork in clothing or accessories
Selvierguard: Viking turn shoes
Pavlok Garod: Favorite Russian dessert redacted with documentation
Yns Taltreath: Wooden box either wood-burned or painted OR any Viking cord
Earngyld: Bobbin lace with metallic threads

Everyone is encouraged to enter as many categories as you like as many times as you like as well is combine any together. (i.e. Illuminated letters and calligraphy, Russian dessert with bobbin laced-looking icing)  Be creative and have fun :) I will have official Event copy out this week with Their Highnesses Whims as well.
