With two decades as a barony, Eskalya
has developed a full slate of awards to recognize the achievements
of its members.
Awards
Companions of the Ivory Quatrefoil (CIQ)/(EOM)
Given for service to the Barony. The
original token for this award was an ivory quatrefoil on ribbon. The
award has as been also called the Eskalyan Order of Merit. Other
examples of the token are beaded quatrefoils on black velvet buttons
(by Their Excellencies Juan Miguel and Penelope) and a leather
roundel picturing a white quatrefoil on a black field (by Their
Excellencies Tancred and Sorcha). This award was created during the
tenure of Their Excellencies Hugh and Selena, Eskalya's Founding
Baron and Baroness.
Order of the Silver Bough (OSB)
Given to commend outstanding
achievements in the arts and/or sciences. The original token for
this award was a green glass roundel sand-etched with an apple bough
and the words "Great Beauty Wrought". This is another of the
original awards from Their Excellencies Hugh and Selena; the silver
bough emblem came from Selena's personal badge. Other variations of
the token are a silver embroidered bough on green velvet and a
leather roundel with a silver bough on a green field.
Order of the Caltrop (OC)
Given to those who have rendered
exemplary personal service to the Baroness of Eskalya. The badge is
Per chevron sable and Or, in base a caltrop sable, and members are
given use of this badge. This Order was created during the tenure of
Their Excellencies Brendan and Aryana, second Baron and Baroness of
Eskalya.
Chatelaine's Star Keep Award
This is a closed order, it was once
used by the Baronial Seneschal to recognize newcomers and those who
did them service.
Order of the Sable Riband (OSR)/(OSG)
Given for consistent display of
chivalry and grace. Originally called the Order of the Sable Garter.
This is a polling order and as such the members recommend others to
be added to their ranks. The Sable Riband was created during the
tenure of Their Excellencies Brendan and Aryana. The current token
is a black garter, with the words Fortibus Virtus ("virtuous
strength") in silver written on it.
Eskalyan Order of the Mountain Sword
(EOMS)
Given to fighters for chivalry and
being an enjoyable opponent on the field. The token for this award
is a metal sword pin. This Order was created during the tenure of
Their Excellencies Juan Miguel and Penelope, fourth Baron and
Baroness of Eskalya.
Pearl of Pagedom (POP)
Given to those who meritoriously
perform service as a page to the Baron and Baroness, this award was
created especially for the younger members of the Barony. The token
is a pearl bead on a ribbon or string. This was created during the
tenure of Their Excellencies Juan Miguel and Penelope.
Lapis Angularis Eskalyae (LAE)
Given to those who have consistently
and over time opened their manors to members of the barony,
newcomers and otherwise; establishing these manors as centers for
the furtherance of the skills and culture of the Society. The token
is a leather lozenge of the design: sable, within a lozenge voided
Or, a mullet argent. This was created during the tenure of Their
Excellencies Tancred and Sorcha, fifth Baron and Baroness of Eskalya.
Recognitions
Amicus Eskalyae (AE)
Given
to those non-baronial members who have consistently and over time
extended their friendship to Eskalya and provided strong support for
the barony and its activities. The token is a tree within a circle.
This was created during the tenure of Their Excellencies Tancred and
Sorcha.
Autocrats' Token
Given to those who have autocrated an
event for the barony. The token is determined by the
sitting Baron and Baroness
The Gold and Copper Mullets
Given to those who have provided
exceptional support in fighting with the barony in war.
The Gold Mullet (for leadership) and the Copper Mullet
(for specific martial prowess or valor) have for their
tokens either a small gold or copper mullet (5-pointed
star).
The Copper Mullet
carries with it the title of Honorary Lieutenant
of the Militia of the Barony of Eskalya. As such it is
considered a title gained in combat and by West Kingdom
convention the bearer may choose to have him/herself
announced in any lists they fight in by this title.
The Gold
Mullet carries no title; however, it is the same
token that is worn by the Baron to display his status as
commander of the barony's forces, which indicates the
high honor the Gold Mullet confers to its recipient.
The preceding recognitions were
established during the tenure of Tancred and Sorcha,
fifth Baron and Baroness of Eskalya.
